~Is Henna Body Art For You?~
Most people are not allergic to henna- in fact, it seems to be one of the safest substances on earth, next to water. But, as with anything else, there are the exceptions to the rule. It's more likely that you might be allergic to other ingredients in mehndi preparations. In order to avoid an unpleasant experience, please have a look at the following list, bearing in mind that we use some of these in our pastes- we don't use all of 'em all of the time, but we do use some of 'em MOST of the time! Just let us know if you're allergic to any of the following:

Henna (Lawsonia Inermis)
Lemon Juice
Aromatherapy-Grade Lavender Essential Oil
Aromatherapy-Grade Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Aromatherapy-Grade Ravensara Oil
Aromatherapy-Grade Tea Tree Oil
Dextrose
Sugar
Honey
Tamarind
Black Tea
Coffee
Cloves
Star Anise

If you're allergic to any of these, or your religion takes exception to any of them (excepting the henna), we can make substitutions. Also, if you're diabetic, don't worry, the sugar won't affect your blood glucose levels.

If you are pregnant, congratulations! Please take this list to your doctor prior to having any mehndi work done, and get her/his stamp of approval. Also bear in mind, your body (as you've probably already noticed already) behaves a little differently when it's busy making a new little being- we have some formulations that are milder than the usual mix, if you'd prefer to go that route.

Now,
this part is really important. Has any physician, at any time, ever warned you to avoid the following:

Aspirin
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Fava Beans
Quinine
Napthalene Fumes
Mothballs
Henna

...Or warned you that you have G6PD Deficiency (Glucose-6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency)? If so, we cannot color your skin with mehndi paste. If you have G6PD deficiency, your body will react to henna much as it would to napthlene.
This is a very, very rare condition, and it's much more dangerous for children than for adults, but we don't want to risk your well-being if you've got it. We would also prefer not to do this for you if you have close relatives with this condition (parents, siblings, or children), just in case- this is a genetic condition. This is also one of the reasons why we won't do henna work on children under the age of 8- if you're not sure that they're not G6PD deficient, and we do it, it can make them very sick. (This would not be a fun way to find out for certain!) Most people don't have this condition, but for the very, very rare few, this is important to be aware of.

If none of this applies to you, we'd be delighted to help you celebrate your unique beauty with mehndi!
